RACHAEL CRAWFORD

ARTIST AND ILLUSTRATOR

Growing up, I roamed the wild Ozark mountains of Arkansas, collecting treasures from the forest floor and searching for fairies in every hollow tree and mossy stone. I wanted magic to be real, and in many ways, I never stopped believing it was.

That childhood wonder grew into a lifelong reverence for the magic of the natural. I became an avid birder and observer and I've spent years learning to truly see; the tilt of a wing, the texture of bark, the way light moves through leaves.

My work lives across a spectrum that mirrors that inner life. On one end, careful realism, honoring the world exactly as it is. In the middle, something that blurs the edges and on the other end, fully whimsical illustrations where I try to capture the magic of our world through shape and form.

Whether I'm painting an animal exactly as it is, reimagining it as something wilder or more whimsical, or trying to explore my views through color, shape, and form, my art is a celebration of a world I believe is full of magic that most people fail to notice.
